New Orleans Coolinary Experience

If you’ve read any of my other posts, you’ll know that a frequent line I say is, “There’s always something to do in New Orleans,” and this is one of them. You ever heard of it? If you haven’t, it would be a great one to add your August date if you live here in NOLA.

What is the Coolinary Experience?

Coolinary New Orleans is an event that happens the WHOLE month of August. You get to experience New Orleans cuisine at fixed prices by some of the top restaurants in New Orleans. With over 85 restaurants to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find something for you.

What We Chose:

We decided to do Brigtsen’s as a girls night. Brigtsen’s was opened by chef Frank Brigtsen and his wife Marna in 1986 to provide New Orleans with delightful Creole/Acadian cooking. Since then, Frank and the restaurant has received numerous awards. It is an upscale restaurant nestled in a small, quaint cottage where you are greeted by his wife. The Coolinary menu is separate from the normal menu as they offer limited items at fixed prices. You can find the menu options on his website or the Coolinary website, so that there are no surprises. It is a 3 course meal all for $39 or you can choose to add 2 glasses of wine to your meal as well for a total of $55.I was craving a lemon drop martini, so I opted for just the 3 course.

On the menu, you can choose from 3 different options.

Fried Catfish and Cheddar Grits

Grilled Redfish and Shrimp with Yukon Potatoes

Everything was delicious and I barely finished it all. (I sent the potatoes home with one of the girls… and I LOVE potatoes! So you know it was very filling). Here’s a picture of a few other desserts:

Tips:

So remember, this was just one restaurant of 85 to choose from.  Be sure to check out other restaurants on the list and let me know how they are! Some do lunch and dinner, and it lasts the WHOLE month of August. (Brigtsen’s is doing all of August AND September.. so no excuse not to check them out!) Make sure you make a reservation! As most are upscale restaurants at discount prices, reservations are highly recommended. (They had no seating available for walk-ins the day we were there).
