DIY Craft Pegbord – A step-by-step tutorial on how to make a craft pegboard that will surely help keep you organized and the clutter off the floor. This vibrant colorful things is probably my favorite thing of my whole craft room. It just brings so much color and life to the room. The pegboard kinda spiraled out of me finally getting my own craft room. After my husband decided I’m not allowed to take up anymore living room or couch space, he graciously helped me move all my stuff into the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom still exists, it’s just now the smaller room. (you can see the priorities here). Let me just tell you, it’s my favorite room. I literally spend most of my time at home in there. (which says a lot, but the kitchen runs a close second!) Most of this came about like all creations usually start these days … Google and Pinterest. (Mad props to all the ladies and gents out there trying to keep me organized!) Its great for saving space, having things right at your fingertips, and you can make cute and colorful! I do admit it took us longer than planned but that was because we took our time doing a few minutes here and there. So without further ado: Related: DIY Wedding Guestbook Board You need to first figure out where you would like your peg board, and the desired size to fit that space. I wanted a board approximately 4″x 4″ in size, but unfortunately Home Depot did not have that size. So we bought a big board that we cut in half. We plan to use the other half in our garage for storage. (Optional): To give it a more clean and fresh look, I also bought some border. It was super cheap, already painted white, and we could cut the lengths at the store. I also bought spray paint to give the peg board some color pizazz. I went with a teal because teal looks good with just about anything. 🙂 Spray the whole peg board with your favorite color and let it dry. If Home Depot didn’t allow you to angle your borders to fit together like a frame, do this now. Make sure it fits together nicely before glueing it down. Once you have the desired look, use construction adhesive glue (similar to gorilla glue) to hold the border down on the edge of the peg board. You may have to hold it there until it dries some or you can use clamps like we did to hold it in place. It helped keep the borders in place as we moved it around . (my helper/ “supervisor”) above doing his MAN-ly thing. Of course, we are human and certainly not professionals that our borders had a few gaps on the end from not being cut just right. So we just filled it in with caulk. Easy peasy and no one notices. We also used a nail gun to secure the border as well. (you can use a regular hammer as well.) Related: DIY Shoe Bench Cushion We added strapping pieces to the back of the peg board. This is so it lays slight off the wall enough to add the hook in the peg board to hang all your items. Because I have an issues with having tons of holes in my walls, my husband tried to use wire to hang it as opposed to strapping it to the wall. Unfortunately, he measured wrong and we had to add another hole, which didn’t work out either. I was not a happy camper when we had to resort back to the original plan of strapping it to the wall. So if any of you are like me, just follow all other pinterest momma’s advice and just strap it to the wall. If you didn’t want to strap directly to the wall, you can use the french cleat to hold your board on the wall. It is mainly used for picture frames but can hold a lot of weight. It worked well for us and we have had no issues with it. Start adding hooks, magnets, baskets… anything that you think will help keep you organized. The beauty of the pegboard is that you can constantly change the way it looks. Nothing is really permanent on it. So try all your different ideas and see what works best for you. I waited till I put together my pegboard before I bought baskets and stuff. You can see my updates below. Updated: I also bought letters to hang above the board. The “INSPIRE” letters I got at Michael’s. I saw many pegboards with the word create or craft above but I wanted to make it different and my own. “WORK” just didn’t seem like a fun word to put, so I googled synonyms of create and low and behold, inspire appeared. I like that it covers all aspects of my life. I hope to inspire others and be inspired. I did think about just hanging them on the pegboard, but I felt it would take away a lot of my space, so I think I might hang them above. ButI got the idea that they might look nice above my windows. Share your craft rooms and pegboards with me, I’d love to be inspired by you. Pin for later? More crafts? Go Here Need date night ideas? Go Here Need Travel guides? Go Here Need Delicious recipes?
