A simple step by step process for making your shoe bench more comfortable and stylish. If your house is anything like mine, space is limited, especially by the doorway. For us, my husbands favorite thing is to leave his shoes by the door. It started out as just a few pairs and then he kept adding to it until the shoes started to line into the kitchen and thats where I draw the line! That’s when I decided we needed a change. I started looking for entryway shoe bench or storage ideas. Of course, straight to Google and holy guacamole, they aren’t cheap! They also weren’t quite as slim as I was needed. So to Pinterest I go to find DIY or alternative options. I wanted it to be functional for us, but still look nice as it is the first thing people see walking in my house. (It kinda sets the stage for your house, ya know?) Like many people, we use our side door more than our front door. The side door opens into a small hallway. Basically, when you walk in, you can only go left or right, so bench couldn’t be too wide or we wouldn’t be able to open our door. I took some measurements and I determined the bench couldn’t be more than 1 ft wide. It could be a decent length and height, but the width would be the hardest thing to find. I would have loved to have made a wood one, but I’m not that handy (yet), and personally sanding things is just not my thing.( No patience! Haha!) Also, buying all the tools to do it would have cost me a bit as well, and then where to put all these tools? haha Hellooooooo Amazon! I found a small shoe bench off their website. It was simple, seemed well made, and had good reviews. I decided to order two since I had enough space and I could make it to where one bench was his and one was mine. They were within my budget and I knew I could do some more DIY’s to it, to make the look complete. Gosh, I love Amazon prime. Bam! It was here in two days and I was excited to put it together all by myself. Immediately, I started looking for ideas on how to do a seat cushion. To Hobby Lobby I went to gather some fabric. My decorations on the walls are black and gold so I was thinking of keeping with this theme. Looking through their abundance of options, I found this lovely pattern and batting. I laid out the fabric, and the batting, and then the foam and then the board. I wrapped the fabric around and I stapled it to the back of the board. One thing I will recommend to do that I didn’t is to iron the fabric to get rid of the creases. What crafty things have you done? Sharing is caring! <3 Need travel ideas?
