Nothing screams love like feeding their bellies! What better way than with a heart-shaped pie filled with strawberries and Nutella. These heart-shaped hand pies are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a snack. A simple way to say I love you is through food. Valentine’s day is right around the corner and for some reason this year, I’m all about making Valentine-themed food. After all, it’s the way to a man’s heart, am I right? At least for my husband, I think so! I love how easy it is to make these mini hand pies. It’s something that even your kids would love to help make with you and gobble right up! What’s better than cooking and making memories with your Valentine? Mini pies are the easiest to make and the most versatile with endless flavor combinations like raspberry and chocolate or dare I say chocolate and orange? To make these strawberry handpie even simpler, I went for using store-bought pie crust. You can certainly make your own, but this works just as well and is easy to make in a pinch. I don’t tend to celebrate Valentine’s day out on the town. I prefer making some romantic meals at home complete with delicious desserts like my chocolate strawberry cake, chocolate-covered cherry cupcakes or mini chocolate raspberry trifles. I’m practically drooling over there. These mini pies are the perfect breakfast to start Valentine’s day or have them as a Valentine’s Day dessert warmed up with a nice bowl of ice cream. Just allow the dough to warm to room temperature a bit before rolling out. It will help to soften the dough so it’s less rigid. I opted to roll it and then squish it together and roll it out again to get the most hearts out of my dough. You can make 12-16 – 3.5 in mini hearts (or 6-8 mini heart pies total) with 1 package of premade pie crust. Once you roll out the dough, use your 3.5in. heart cutter to cut out some hearts and place them on a pan lined with parchment paper. Squish the remaining dough together and roll it back out again until you run out of dough. On half of the hearts, add a little more than 1/2 tsp of strawberry puree or strawberry jam and 1/2 of Nutella. Then place other hearts on top. Seal the edges with egg or water and use a fork to press them firmly together. Add 2 slits to the top of the pie. You can do two line parallel or an x or whatever you choose. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkles of coarse sugar (optional). Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden brown. Enjoy the delicious combination of strawberry and Nutella swirls in your mouth. Add these pies to a nice bowl of ice cream for the ultimate Valentine’s Day treat. Nothing says love like heart shaped berry nutella hand pies! These mini pies are filled with strawberries and nutella for a delectable treat everyone will love this Valentine's Day! If your strawberry puree didn’t call for lemon, I suggest adding 1 tsp of lemon zest to it before spooning into pies. Need more delicious recipes? Go here Want to spice up date night?
