How to Make a Donut Cake

This I did for my husband for our police themed date night. It turned out great and looked just like a donut! I decided to do chocolate chip because chocolate chip morsels and chocolate chip cookies are his favorites, but you can also use it for a police themed birthday party as well.

How to Make a Doughnut Cake

This is probably one of the simplest cakes I’ve made in regards to themed birthday cakes. Bundt cakes seem to always come in handy! They give off such elegance and amazing flavors. I opted to do more like a pound cake to really get a dense cake.

Adding chocolate ganache on top as the icing really made this cake look like a donut! Add some sprinkles and you’ll see everyone smiling ear to ear because who doesn’t love a doughnut with sprinkles?!

Variations of a Donut Cake

The beauty of this donut cake is you can make it whatever flavor you would like. If you would rather a glazed donut with sprinkles, you can do that as well. You can use your favorite vanilla cake recipe or this delicious pound cake recipe. White chocolate ganache or vanilla icing works and then sprinkles all around! You can also do a chocolate donut with this recipe, or you can use my chocolate chip recipe below!

Chocolate Chip Pound Cake

A moist dense buttery pound cake filled with chocolate chips and topped with a creamy chocolate frosting.

Course Dessert

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter
• 1/2 cup vegetable oil
• 4 egg
• 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup sour cream
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 cup flour
• 3 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease bundt pan and set aside

2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter, oil, granulated and brown sugar. Beat for 2-3 mins.

3. Add in eggs one at a time and combine.

4. Next, add in sour cream and vanilla extract. Set aside.

5. In a small/medium bowl, whisk together dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and salt)

6. Now, add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, add half at a time mixing thoroughly in between.

7. Gently stir in chocolate chips.

8. Pour into bundt pan and bake for 40-50 mins or until toothpick comes out clean.
