It’s carnival time down here in New Orleans and we are gearing up for a fully loaded parade season! This Mardi Gras Puppy Chow Snack Mix will be a great addition to your Mardi Gras parties or just to snack on by the parade route! While everyone is counting down the days till their Spring Break or Easter, we are counting all the parades we can see till Fat Tuesday! A fun vibrant time here in Louisiana filled with lots of good food like Cajun Shrimp Pasta, and jambalaya, and delicious desserts like king cakes or my king cake bars, or cookies! But sometimes you need something a little salty and sweet and this snack mix is it! Whether you call it puppy chow, muddies buddies, or reindeer chow, you’ll be addicted to this sweet treat. In fact, I’m still eating some now, it’s hard to stop! I love that this snack mix has a nice hint of cinnamon flavor too! It gives off mega king cake vibes which are perfect for this Mardi Gras season! Although I think I would love this cinnamon puppy chow mix year-round. The hint of cinnamon with the smooth creaminess of the white chocolate is ah-mazing! While this is not your traditional muddy buddy mix because I don’t use any nuts in case of nut allergies, you can certainly add some if you so desire, but it’s tasty just the way it is. I love how easy this snack mix is to make! The long part is allowing it to harden and that is so quick if you pop them in the fridge! Although I prefer to allow it to set at room temperature to avoid condensation. This is also easy to double the batch if you are making it for a big crowd! To start, you’ll need 3 Ziploc bags and 3 different bowls. Place 1 cup chex cereal into 3 different ziplock bags. Each bowl will be for your different colored white chocolate. (purple, green, gold, white). Melt your chocolate one at a time for about 90 seconds in the microwave. You’ll need to keep an eye on it after 1 min 10 seconds. Stir until smooth and creamy and all melted. (If bought white, add coloring now. If you bought candy melts already colored, you’re ready to go!) Add 1 bag of the chex cereal to your color and gently stir to coat. Some might break, just be as gentle as you can. Now, it’s time to add powdered sugar. Measure out about 1/3 cup. Add half of the powdered sugar to the bag and then the coated chex cereal and then the rest of the powdered sugar on top. Zip it up and shake gently to coat. Now dump it out on a pan lined with parchment paper. Make sure you just spread them evenly out so they don’t all dry in a clump together. Then repeat this with the other two colors of purple, green, and gold. When you get to the white, I melted it in a glass to be able to dip the pretzels and nilla wafers. You can use a bowl here as well if you feel more comfortable with that. Melt the chocolate just like the other and then dip half the pretzel or nilla wafer into the white chocolate. Add a few sprinkles of your choice and then lay it out on parchment paper to set. I left a few pretzels plan and nilla wafers but totally your choice because they are deliciously covered in that white chocolate goodness. Once set, in a large bowl or ziplock if you are taking it on the go, add in the Chex mix, pretzels, and nilla wafers, and some M&Ms. Shake in the bag to mix or toss in the bowl. I can’t wait for you to try it, you’ll totally be hooked! A delightful Mardi Gras Snack mix with hints of cinnamon with creamy white chocolate giving some serious king cake vibes! Perfect for Mardi Gras parties or out on catching beads on the parade route. Line 2-3 pans with parchment paper and set aside. Start with 3 ziploc sandwich bags and 3 bowls. Place 1 cup of chex cereal in each ziploc bag. Using white chocolate with no color: Split white chocolate equally into 4 different blocks. Do one at a time. Melt 1 bowl of white chocolate for approximately 90 seconds until fully melted. Add in food coloring. Mix until combined. Using colored candy melts: Melt in bowl for approximately 90 seconds until fully melted. Add 1 bag of chex cereal into bowl, and gently stir to coat chex cereal. Use 1/3 cup of powdered sugar for each color. ( Add coated cereal back into the bag and add 1/3 powdered sugar). Shake to coat. Once coated, pour chex mix onto lined pan and try and lay snack mix flat or separate as much as possible to avoid it clumping together to dry. Repeat for each color of the purple, green and yellow (gold). The last block, is plain white. Melt in a bowl or mug. Dip some of the pretzels and nilla wafers halfway into the white chocolate and add a little spinkles of your choice on top. Lay on parchment paper to set. Once set, you can pour chex mix, pretzels, nilla wafers, m&ms into the gallon bag or large bowl. It should be about 1 cup of each. Shake or toss to mix. I hope you enjoy this Mardi Gras Snack Mix!
