A completely different perspective of a city. New Orleans aerial tour provides fantastic views, perfect date night idea. Check out the views! So here we are at May, and let me just say that when I was first planning out all of my dates for the year, I was really most nervous about this one. (See other date ideas here). Groupon gave me this at a fantastic price that I had no choice but to buy it, I also had no choice but to use it before it expired which was May, my birthday month. So I became fearless for my birthday! Ok, ok I guess I wont leave you hanging any longer. (This is my super excited so I’m not looking super nervous face!) For my May date, I took me and the boyfriend on a 30 minute aerial tour of New Orleans. Now, I know some of you are thinking… really? that’s it? But for me, a person who has NEVER flown in all 27 (almost 28 years) of her life. It was. (See where I’ve traveled since then! ) Some say the teeny tiny place are worse than the big commercial ones. For me, I just liked that A) it was 30 minutes and B) the pilot was right there to for me to yell, ” GET. ME. DOWN!” …you know, just in casies. Luckily, I didn’t have any issues, and actually wanted to stay up longer. It made me realize it was a silly fear and since I’ve been on multiple airlines and even flown by myself. The 30-minute aerial tour was really cool to be able to see your own city from above. Our pilot has been flying for years and quite comical. He made us feel safe and offered to let us pick where to go. We really didn’t think that far about it, so it just took us over all the traditional spots. If you’ve been here, you know New Orleans is not that big. We got to get great pictures of the Superdome, the fairgrounds, the cemeteries, Lake Pontchartrain etc. The mighty Mississippi was prominent from all around. The fairgrounds were not quite as green as normal as Jazzfest was the two weekends before. Our cemeteries… crazy to look at from above. Since New Orleans is below sea level, we bury our loved ones above ground. The city: Lake Pontchartrain and the interstate along with great landscape views: It was truly a wonderful site, and as quick as we were up, we were back down. The Groupon, (if anyone was interested) was a buy one get one free. So seeing how one of us basically flew for free, I had to take it. If I remember correctly, it was $125/person. So I payed $125 plus gas for our trip. It was definitely one of our more expensive trips but well worth it for me to get over my fear of flying and for the sites. Definitely check out Groupon if you are looking for ideas in your city. On to June where we become a tourist and meet people from all over the US. Share with friends! More Dates:

what a neat experience ! I didn’t know New Orleans offered this. I remember taking a flight over my city/town when I was younger, in a plan about the same size. It was so cool to see everything from such a different perspective!

NOLA is one of my favorite American cities, one that I’ve visited many times. BUT, I’ve never seen it from the air. Thanks for sharing these photos!

Oh how fun! I’d have totally feel the same about Groupon…I mean how can you say NO to that price? So awesome that you overcame your fear of flying. My best friend has a legitimate fear and won’t even go to the airport…ugh!! I’ve been all over the US but never to New Orleans…need to plan that one ASAP.

Thanks Julie! I’m so glad I did too! It opens up so many more opportunities. My fear was more because everyone wanted me to do it, and my stubborn self just wanted to do it on my own time. Yes, do come visit, we’d love to have you!

What an amazing way to see your home town! I can see why you were nervous. I fly all the time on large planes but even in an eight seater I was pretty nervy. I bet flying has super easy since then 🙂

Seeing a city from the air – even one you know really well – is always eye opening. There’s so many things you can see that you didn’t realize were there. Definitely a cool perspective. I’d love to do an aerial tour of my hometown!

Wow! What a super fun and creative thing to do! I’d never think to book a tour like this, but it looks awesome!

Never done a helicopter tour as they always come up soo expensive and I end up changing my mind. Don’t think I have ever seen New Orleans from this angle so kudos for sharing!

What a fun experience! I’ve always wanted to do an aerial tour, will have to look into one in the next city I visit.
