Here I am, sitting on my couch, trying to decide how to take on 2018. I always think of the generic ones each year like, “I’m going to eat healthier, workout more and be a better person.” Hey, you know, we’ve all been there. But this year, I really wanted to delve deep and figure out REALLY how I want this next year to go. Sure, I want to be healthier and happier, but what do I really want out of it. A friend of mine posted about how she decided to take on the new year with a theme. I was intrigued and so I read on. This is what she said. How many of you actually carry out your New Year’s resolutions? A couple of years ago I started replacing my New Year’s resolutions with a New Year’s theme, it was a total game changer. In 2017, my theme was “War Against Fear,” it allowed me to look at my life from a different perspective and make daily, weekly, and monthly decisions that incorporated my theme. If something scared me because it made me uncomfortable, I tried it. For example, I focused on being more honest with myself and others; I summited a mountain by myself; I took on challenging jobs etc… This year my theme is “Financial Responsibility.” Instead of defining a specific behavior, my year will be filled with attainable goals that relate to my theme: Improve my credit score, Get rid of unnecessary subscriptions, Go back to school, Improve my budget, Pay off a bill… Each new theme I choose will be focused on giving me purpose and direction for the future. What will your New Year’s Theme be? This got me really thinking. If I did a theme, what would I choose? For once, I felt like this might keep me motivated and made it feel more attainable by having a theme and not just one goal. I could making baby goals to complete each month that would get me closer to my overrall goal. This year, my theme is minimalism and prosperity. I’m sure you all have felt you could get rid of some things, and long for financial stability. Below are my plans to attain these goals. I’m sure you can all relate to feeling like you have way more stuff than you need (and for some not enough of what you actually need). I’m going to be real honest with you. I have a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house and only two people that live here, yet we have filled EVERY room with stuff. Now to be fair, we both had our own home before moving in together, so we got rid of a ton when we first moved in together, but as the years drag on, we haven’t been as proactive with it. I also have a whole room dedicated to crafts and my Etsy store, and then the other room is a guest room. However, I still feel we have too much. With my addiction to traveling getting stronger, I would personally rather make more memories than to have more stuff. So this is my mission. How I am making it happen: I found some great declutter checklists that will help me go through things that aren’t in the usual weekly cleaning list. (You can also find the lists I’m using here and here). These lists give me a great place to start and I also wrote extras on the back of the sheet. On a separate sheet, I wrote down the first four months of the year and under each month, I wrote the numbers 1-4 for the weeks in a month. Next, to each number, I wrote small goals for decluttering from the list. For example, Wk1: Clean Top cabinet and Tupperware out. Wk 2: Top of Master bedroom closet Wk 3: Rest of closet/bookshelf (master bedroom) Wk4: Closet ( guest bedroom) Each of these are small things in the grand scheme but it will be great when they are done. These are places that I don’t regularly clean when it comes to keeping the house clean. They are the ones that have stuff that just sits for years all pretty but never go through and assume you still want. I I LOVE that it’s not me setting aside time to do the WHOLE kitchen but just a few cabinets at a time. Also, I give myself a week to do it and this still leaves me time for everything else I need to get done, which is great! Prosperity is something we all want but doesn’t necessarily actively work towards or don’t know how to work towards each year. This year, I want to learn all I can and actively start working towards prosperity. I believe everyone has to find their way in making it work for them. In the coming month, I hope to show you how I am attaining prosperity. The main focus will be on pursuing things that make us happy but still provide for us. This blog has been my happiness and now I am working towards it providing more than just that. How I am making it happen: Partners4Prosperity has been super helpful in providing information on how to get there, especially this one. I am still working on my small goals for this one, but when I do I’ll be sure to update here. So what will your theme be? Pin for later?
